ATTENTION TAPERS:
Do you record shows yourself when you attend them?
I myself have not done so, but if you do, you may find the following web site useful....
http://www.sonicstudios.com/pa_x.htm
It seems to have lots of technical information (way above my head!) about
microphones, and to be a source for buying high quality equipment.

(Click here for a more detailed index of subjects)

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys collecting music bootlegs or has any interest in learning more about them! This is an extremely detailed and comprehensive "inside view" of the methods, actions, and thought processes of the people behind most of the bootlegs made for the first several years of this phenomenon's history. I couldn't put it down.

"The Traveling Wilburys, The Complete Wilburys" 2 discs - Studio outtakes - NOTE: In my opinion these discs are crap. Plus there are some 'oldies' thrown on to fill up space, that aren't even the Wilburys at all! - No track list and no art

"The Traveling Wilburys, Unsurpassed Masters Demo Session" 1 disc (20 tracks, Studio) Sound quality is very good - Track 20 seems to get cut off prematurely - Cover art available upon request, however the cover art lists 23 tracks and my disc only has 20 tracks

RICK SPRINGFIELD

"Springfield in Springfield 2003" 1 disc (Soundboard, from FM) This is from an FM radio show called "Supergroups" - Live concert was recorded at Prairie Capitol Convention Center, Springfield, IL 7-1-03 - I was told there are were few light glitches in the first track, but I didn't notice anything when I listened to it. In my opnion the sound quality is excellent, and this is simply a great show! I've never been a huge Rick Springfield fan, but this show was lively and fun to listen to. Rick sounds like he's in top form, and the band's chops are tight and polished - No track list or cover art

"Evergreen" (Also circulated under the name "Mohammed's TV") 1 disc (Soundboard) Boston, MA October, 1973 - PLEASE NOTE: I have been told that my copy of "Evergreen" is actually "Hoaxers Midnight DayDream", although I have not yet compared them for myself. If you have a copy of "Evergreen" and a copy of "Hoaxers Midnight DayDream", and yours are definitely different from each other, let me know. I'd like to obtain the true "Evergreen" - Sound quality is great - No track list or cover art

"At The Aquarius" 1 disc (13 tracks, Soundboard) Aquarius Theater, Boston, MA 1-1-73 - Sound quality is very good, but not perfect. It sounds like it may have been edited from a radio or TV program. Also, tracks 11,12,13 sound as if they are from a different performance, and were transferred from an LP that had some scratches - No track list or cover art

"The Hoaxers Midnight Daydream" 1 disc (Soundboard,11 tracks) Great bootleg of the audio portion of the legendary ABC Live In Concert TV Special, 11-09-73 - Overall great sound quality, but it has split-second gaps between tracks and there are some scratchy noises in a few parts - Track list available upon request - Cover art available upon request

"Another Tokyo Night" (Also widely circulated as "Hawaii '74") 1 disc (12 tracks, Soundboard) Nakano Sun Plaza, Tokyo, Japan, 6-21-74 (Also circulated with the date 7-6-71) - This is the same disc as "Hard-Headed Woman, 6-29-74". I'm not sure which date is correct. - Fantastic sound quality! The quality and the mix are so good that in some places it could almost be mistaken for the original studio tracks, except for slight variations. The first track has one minor skip. - No track list or cover art

"Hard-Headed Woman" (Also widely circulated as "Hawaii '74") 1 disc (12 tracks, Soundboard) Nakano Sun Plaza, Tokyo, Japan, 6-29-74 - This is the same disc as "Another Tokyo Night". I'm not sure which date is correct. - Fantastic sound quality! - Cover art can be obtained here

"Paris 12-75" 1 disc (13 tracks, Soundboard, recorded from FM) Paris, France 12-?-75 (Anyone know the exact date?) Great sound quality, but not all the track transitions are perfect. - No track list or cover art

"Where Do The Children Play" 1 disc - These are alternate mixes of his popular studio recordings, usually with additional instruments such as drums or keyboards. This is a German import, was not an official release and Cat Stevens had nothing to do with it, from what I am told. Why anyone would do such a thing to these masterpieces is totally beyond me, personally. It's like painting a mustache onto the Mona Lisa! (17 tracks) - GREAT sound quality - Track list - Sorry, no cover art at this time

... Also of interest to Cat Stevens fans ...

MPEG CD:"Cat Stevens In Concert" 1 disc (Mpeg video) This is from a German TV show called "Later On". The announcer at the beginning says something about the "Old Grey Whistle Test 1971", but I don't know what that is exactly. The first 10 songs (including "Wild World", "Moonshadow", "I Love My Dog", "Maybe You're Right, Maybe You're Wrong", "Bitter Blue", "Into White" and others) are from a small televised concert. Then there are two songs ("If I Laugh" and "The One That's Going To Last") performed in a studio without an audience (Perhaps this is the Old Grey Whistle Test). Then there is the actual music video for the song "Father and Son"!! - This is not a VCD. It's some kind of Mpeg. Please note that I was personally unable to watch it on my iMac (I tried a variety of programs to no avail, including Quicktime and Windows Media Player), but on my Dell PC it played fine using Windows Media Player. The video and audio are very good quality, even at full screen.
This disc trades like any other: 1-for-1

VCD: "Tribute To Cat Stevens" 1 disc - This is a VCD (copied on CDR). It should play in most DVD players, but I cannot guarantee it will play in yours. You can also watch it on your computer using VCD playing software, available free all over the internet. The content is pretty much the same as the above disc. The majority of this disc is from the BBC TV show "Later On" featuring Cat Stevens in concert from 1971. Some of the tracks on the above disc are not on this disc, but this disc also feature a number of very nice 'slideshows' of still photographs of Cat Stevens accompanied by Cat Stevens music. The video and audio quality are great. Interestingly, this VCD also has a semi-interactive menu, although it works differently than a DVD menu. At the beginning of the disc is an image that shows the various tracks. Use the 'UP' and 'DOWN' arrow buttons to select a track (Track 1 will play the whole disc) then press 'ENTER' to play that track. At any time, to return to the main menu, press the 'REWIND' button (not the 'Menu' button).
This disc trades like any other: 1-for-1

It's intimate and personal. Just him and his guitar for most of it. And he talks, jokes and tells stories a lot between songs! WINGER

GEORGE WINSTON

"Minneapolis '85" 1 disc (Soundboard, from FM) Orchestra Hall, Minneapolis, MN 1985 - George Winston is a wonderful solo pianist who has numerous CDs and a huge base of ardent fans, of which I am one. Be aware however that none of the music he performs in this show is from his official releases. Also, only the first few songs are solo piano. The rest has a back-up band (drums, bass and guitar at least). The music is up-beat jazz. - Quality is great for the most part, but has some minor hiss, and it is poorly edited. There are a couple of brief cut-outs, and a few tracks end prematurely. On the positive side, most of the audience has been edited out. - No track list or cover art

ROB ZOMBIE / WHITE ZOMBIE

"Make Them Die Slowly" 1 disc (Soundboard) Rare White Zombie 1986 studio album (Traded only because it is out of print, and therefore no longer available commercially) - Not yet rated - No track list or cover art

"Auburn in Hell" 1 disc (Source unknown) Auburn Hills, Detroit, MI 3-3-99 - During this show Rob announces that they are broadcasting the show over the internet. However, I think this might be an audience recording of the show because the quality is not as good as I would expect if it was an officially sanctioned broadcast. It's very tinny. Not enough bass. Also there are very short TAO track gaps - No track list or cover art

"Ozzfest 99" 1 disc (11 tracks) New Jersey 6-10-99 - The artwork images are very low-res, and the sound quality is 'Fair' at best - Cover art available upon request
