ATTENTION TAPERS:
Do you record shows yourself when you attend them?
I myself have not done so, but if you do, you may find the following web site useful....
http://www.sonicstudios.com/pa_x.htm
It seems to have lots of technical information (way above my head!) about
microphones, and to be a source for buying high quality equipment.

(Click here for a more detailed index of subjects)

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys collecting music bootlegs or has any interest in learning more about them! This is an extremely detailed and comprehensive "inside view" of the methods, actions, and thought processes of the people behind most of the bootlegs made for the first several years of this phenomenon's history. I couldn't put it down.

"Did You Bring Your Balls?" 1 disc - Mark Bolan TV Show 12-6-76 & others - Sound quality not yet rated - No cover art

"Old Waldorf" 1 disc (Soundboard, 73 min.) Old Waldorf, San Francisco, CA 4-3-77 (or 9-3-77?), plus 1 bonus track  - Track list - No cover art - Very Good to Great sound quality. Almost imperceptible microsecond TAO transitions

"WSHE Broadcast" 1 disc (7 tracks, Recorded from FM, Approx. 55 min.) 4 O'Clock Club, Fort Lauderdale, FL August '77 - The sound quality is good, but a bit muffled, and with a good deal of tape hiss - No track list or cover art

"Live At Cleveland Agora 1977" (Also circulated under the names "Bon's Balls" and "Full QFM96 Broadcast") 1 disc (50 min., Recorded from FM) Agora Ballroom, Cleveland, OH 8-22-77 (The date of the "Bon's Balls disc was 7-7-77. I'm not sure which date is correct, but they're the same show.) - Sound quality is GREAT. Includes a few brief words from radio DJ which are cut short - No track list or cover art

"Townsend '79" 1 disc (12 tracks, Soundboard, 72 min.) Stage College, Townsend, England 10-16-79 (or Townson Center, Townson, MD?) - This disc would be great, but unfortunately there's a horribly high level of distortion throughout the entire disc which pretty much ruins the listening experience. I don't know if it's just from tape aging, or the original recording level being too high, or if it's radio static. - Track list available upon request - No cover art

"Highway to Hammersmith" 1 disc (FM Soundboard) Hammersmith Odeon, London, England 11-2-79 - GREAT sound quality. Has fraction-of-a-second TAO track transitions. - Cover art

"Nearing The End Of The Highway" 1 disc (15 tracks, Audience Recording) Mayfair, Newcastle, UK 1-25-80 - This is the same show as "Bon, Please Don't Go", but it's a far more inferior recording. On the plus side, this disc includes a 50-second radio news clip about Bon Scott's death. - Converted from MP3 - Split-second TAO track gaps - Sound quality is merely 'Fair' at best - No cover art

"Bon's Last" 1 disc (11 tracks, Soundboard) Reportedly this was Bon Scott's Last Concert - Hammersmith Odeon - London, UK 1-27-80 - Sound quality is GREAT - No track list or cover art

"London '80" 1 disc (Recorded from FM) Live in London, England 1980 (Possibly Victoria Apollo Theatre, London 11-14-80, or it may be the same as "Bon's Last". I haven't compared them yet.) - Sound quality not yet rated - No cover art

"Sessions, Rarities, B-Sides, Vol 1-3" 3 discs (51 tracks, Soundboard) Disc one sounds like a fairly recent concert. Disc 2 sounds like a Bon Scott era concert. Disc 3 has assorted TV appearances, B-Sides and rarities - Sound quality is GREAT - Track list available upon request - No cover art

"Rare...Rarer...Rarities" 1 disc (Studio Soundboard, 60 min.) This disc is very interesting. The first 2 tracks sound so different from AC/DC's signature style that I was shocked. More like Lynyrd Skynyrd's sound. I'm told that these tracks are Pre-Bon Scott. The singer at that time was Dave Evans, and these songs were only released in Australia. Track 3 starts out sounding more like Rush or Styx in my opinion, and turns into a slow ballad .. the first time I've heard Bon Scott sing anything like this. The rest of the tracks sound like the AC/DC we know and love - FANTASTIC sound quality too! - Track list - Cover art available upon request

"Bon's Ultimate Volts" 1 disc (17 tracks) No details known - Not yet rated - Converted from MP3 - No cover art

THE JOE PERRY PROJECT

NOTE: I saw The Joe Perry Project live at The Fitchburg Theater, Fitchburg, MA 10-20-83, and would love to find a copy of that show. "Boston, MA 12-12-79" 1 disc (18 tracks, Audience recording) The Paradise, Boston, MA 12-12-79 (This was supposedly Joe's 1'st "official show" with The Joe Perry Project after leaving Aerosmith, although I am told he did one small performance the day before) - Sound quality is good, but some tracks break up a little, and some of the editing is rough between tracks - Track list available upon request

AMERICA

"In Concert 1972" 1 disc (15 tracks, Soundboard, from FM) Whiskey A Go Go, Los Angeles, CA 11-15-72, plus Holland 1972 - Sound quality of the Whiskey show is very good, but a little muffled. The Holland show is very good, but a little tinny - Cover art available upon request

"Studio Live 1975" 1 disc (Studio Soundboard, 11 tracks) The Bremen Studios, Germany 1975 - LOVE IT! I think this is a single recording session. It seems to run together. They play several of their best songs, and interestingly they sound green to the recording process ... after the first song one of them asks something like "I'm not sure .. are we supposed to do it over if we don't like how it came out?" and the studio engineer responds "Just go ahead and keep going". - GREAT sound quality too! - Track list - Cover art available upon request

"Los Angeles '78"  1 disc (Soundboard, from FM, 40 min.) This disc contains tracks from two different shows, recorded from the King Biscuit Flower Hour radio show. "Cuyahoga Falls '82" 1 disc - Cuyahoga Falls, OH 9-4-82 - Sound quality not yet rated - No track list or cover art

"Live in Florida 1985" 1 disc (15 tracks, Audience recording) Recorded at Bobby's "Cheek to Cheek" club, Winter Park, Florida 4-22-85 - Sound quality is GREAT for an audience recording. There is some audience talking and clapping, of course. But none of the general distortion that you would expect with an recording made in such a small club - Cover art available upon request

NORMAN BLAKE & TONY RICE

"Norman Blake and Tony Rice; Prism Coffee House" 2 discs (Soundboard) Prism Coffee House, Charlottesville, VA 5-13-99 - I am unfamiliar with these artists, and merely obtained this for a friend. But here's a quote from the chap I obtained it from: "A high quality show, but its always a little sad to not hear Tony sing. His voice is totally shot these days but it is still a really nice show. I don't know who masters these Prism Coffee House shows but they always do a good job capturing the music." - Great sound quality - No track list or cover art

BON JOVI

"Slippery When Wet Demos" 1 disc (Studio Soundboard) Sound quality is somewhere around 'Good'. It's very listenable, but the sound is not perfect. The highs are a bit high, there's a good deal of distortion, and some minor tape warbling, but overall it sounds good, if you're a big Bon Jovi fan already - No track list or cover art
